I am not sure I will be able to stay the night in Niagra Falls.Don't want to drive back home but may have to work early Saturday morning. The Hostel looks pretty good. What Campgrounds would you suggest.

Water is low in Nith but should be ok.Not for sea kayaks tho,I dont think.Canoes would be fun coming down there I imagine.Meeting at Bean Park between 8:30 and 9:00.Leaving Bean Park to set up at 9:00.This paddle should take about 3-4 hours. If you think your going to be late getting to Bean Park,Paris call me on my cell(519-932-0529).
The river is at about 7.5 m3/s with more rain coming tomorrow and a nice day for Sunday.

We could do the Nith and continue down to Brant.Dorothy mentioned it was a 4 hour paddle Canning to Paris at a leisurely paddle with moderate current and I'm guessing the current will be less than moderate. We could leave the option open and drop some vehicles off at Brant for those who want to continue past Bean Park.Paris to Brant(2 hours)
If the Nith is to low we could do Paris to Cockshutte Rd.(6 hours). If there is time, those who wish to, could set up to do Glen Morris to Paris(3 hours).Think we may be cutting it close with daylight though.

I have no probs with canoes coming, more the merrier.
If the Nith is to low would like to do Grand from Bean Park to Cockshutte Rd.
Note to Dympna: I was at the Thorncrest Outfitters website and they are saying the Saugeen is running well with some of the other rivers up that area not safe.Would like try that river sometime, as well as the Maitland upriver of Benmiller, be nice if this was the year.

With acceptable water levels,we are gonna all meet at Bean Park, in Paris, between 8:30 and 9:00, shuttle with kayaks and people will leave the park at 9:00 to the put-in first bridge south of Canning. Will wait if we know someone is coming and they call to let us know they will be a few minutes late getting to Bean Park.I'd be happy to do the Grand River as a back up plan if water levels are not so good on the Nith.

I believe the put in for this is the road bridge straight south of Canning on Canning road.Id like to get into the water by 10:00.So we need to set up our shuttle back before then.Kind of need some idea of how many kayaks we will be carrying. My wife's jeep will carry 4 kayaks, and I know of another vehicle that may be going that will carry up to 3 kayaks. Not sure if it would be best to all park at Bean Park in Paris and drive everyone and kayaks to the put in.Or Meet in Canning launch and take the shuttle vehicles down to Bean Park.Depends on how much parking there is in Canning.Gonna go look this weekend.Current Flow is 3.3 m3/s right now but I hear its ok to do at 7.7 m3/s but no less.Pray for rain.

Thanks for the tips Dorothy. It will be my first time down so it should be interesting.I see the water level in the Nith has dropped more since I posted but hoping for some more rain.Definitely want to try it when spring gets here as well.I will keep an I out for the water levels and the weather as I'm not so sure I would want to do this one in the rain at this time of year.

Anyone interested in doing the Nith River Sunday Nov 1.I'm calling it "Paddlin with the Pumpkins".I hear Class 2 rapids when the water is raging in the spring but I don't think the water is near that high as of yet.Plan to go from Canning to Paris, 2 or 3 hour trip depending on water levels.

GPS Coords are 42 degrees 50.352 N....80 degrees 38.389 W....These Coords are to the parking lot at the park behind Delhi Tobacco Museum and Heritage Center. This is the starting point of Big Creek. To get to there from Simcoe follow the #3 highway to Delhi go through all the lights (Main Street being the last set of stoplights)as you go down the hill Delhi Tobacco Museum and Heritage Center will be on your left(turn into the Museum parking lot and drive in behind to the Park.
Hoping meet all there by 8:30am and by 9:00 send a vehicle to the other end for rides back to park where we can pick up our own cars and pick up our boats and head to the Tillsonburg Carnation Park for lunch(pack a lunch,I imagine the picnic tables will still be out). From there we can drive around to the launch site for Big Otter Creek (I have done this section of the Creek in 1.5 hours and I have done it in 3 hours so I guess its gonna vary). The take out is a short drive from the put in...same deal as Big Creek a ride back to our vehicles to pick up our boats.
This can also be done where those that only want to do the morning run can call it a day at the end of the Big Creek run.No raindate! We still go in a light rain....long as no thunderstorms.

Hi all......planning to kayak Big Creek and Big Otter Creek on Sept. 26.The plan is to do a short section on Big Creek near the town of Delhi in the morning and meet back at the start point for lunch at the park there, and after head over to Big Otter Creek to set up for about a 2 to 3 hour run down a short section of the Big Otter.
There is 4 Kayaks available to rent at Springford Enterprises (519-688-8697)for $30 a day($100 deposit).Duck and Goose hunting starts back up on sept. 26 but the Big Creek run skirts the town of Delhi so the morning run should be ok in that aspect.
These creeks arent really meant for kayaks over 10 feet but canoes may be ok.Big Creeks run has 1 to 3 portages depending on the water level....higher the level = more portages...plenty of trees to duck under so be prepared to have to kiss the bottom of your kayak in places. But at the exit there will be a half km hike up a well packed but steep hill.I always go just for the hike.Big Otter for the afternoon will require kissing the bottom of your kayak but no portages, and a easy level stroll back onto the roadway.
These sections of the Creeks are not really dangerous but have plenty of rapids, and lots of tight spaces and turns.Lifejackets MUST be WORN, or no go.
I will give times and gps coordinates in future posts

Waiting to see what the weather is going to do, seems promising for thunderstorms in the afternoon and possible more tornadoes.I will wait and see if the paddle is a go or not.

Deer Creek Conservation is closed after labour day....shame too it is so pretty back there in the fall.It was always my favorite time to be back in there. They haven't posted the hunting season for Long Point Bay yet and wont till after Labour day.I dont imagine there will be hunting on Sundays though. The phone number for this information is 1-519-586-2133.I believe last year it started on Sept. 10. I may be quite interest in something like this if the date could be worked out around the hunters.

Hey Dave
Sadly I cant make this one. Being on a thursday night I would be arriving home in time to head to work, and not being as young as I use to be I'm to smart to do that kinda thing to myself.
But keep me notified about that Orangeville paddle you were talking about before.

Hope all went well for those that went to Kelso....I really wanted to make it out to play.
Thanks for the reminder on the Mayfor code, I was finding myself trying to remember the name of it and haven't had a chance to do a search on the net for it.
As for the paddle to Ontario Place, sounds like a plan. I have the date open but am wondering what the times are for it.And what did James mean by watch for the security going under the docks?
