I am considering purchasing a "Current Design, Kestrel 160". I know it is labelled as a recreational kayak and I would be using it most of the time around Hamilton, Burlington for that very reason, however there is the possibility of a 3-4 day trip once a summer either on Georgian Bay or Lake Superior with several other friends.
I am wondering if this kayak would be suitable for that purpose. I am 6ft 2in, 180 lb and 65 years old and have kayaked a reasonable amount of time.
The specs are as follows:
L:16ft W:25in, D:12in, Weight:49lb
Max Load 350lb, Front Hatch vol: 38L, Rear Hatch vol:72L
Cockpit: 39in x 18.5in.
My 2 concerns are the size of the cockpit which makes it easy to get in and out for someone my size but creates a sizeable skirt opening in larger waves and the volume that I would be able to store for a 3-4 day trip. I look forward to your recommendation. Thanks
