Post Independence Day Paddle
by Craig Woodall on 06/25/2011 22:13

Anybody fancy going for a day time paddle on Monday 4th July? I'm thinking maybe Toronto Islands but could be persuaded to go elsewhere, let me know if you're interested.

Cheers

Craig

Post Location
by Craig Woodall on 03/18/2011 21:18

Hey Brian, that would be great - have you got room on your rack for my kayak? I'll drop you an email with my address. I know the location of the launch, we went from there last year.

So looking forward to this paddle!

Craig

Maybe a compromise is in order.....do they serve beer and chocolate at the sushi place?

Post Fish

There has to be a real fish and chip shop over there somewhere, Alan can bring his own Haggis.

Post Paddle - Yes, Raw Fish - No
by Craig Woodall on 03/07/2011 23:16

Hey Carla,

So I'm with James on the whole Sushi thing but will certainly make it for the paddle, I'll put the call in to the Coast Guard before I leave home, should save some time later in the day! Looking forward to it.

Post Weather is good
by Craig Woodall on 02/05/2011 08:28

Weather is looking perfect (but a bit cold!). Snow and ice accumulation on the beach may make for an interesting launch. See you down there. Craig

Post Saturday 5th February Paddle
by Craig Woodall on 02/03/2011 21:18

Hi, there's a group of us thinking about a short paddle on Saturday morning at Burlington Beach. Meet at 9:30am, in the water by 10am. At the moment the weather is looking OK, keep an eye on learntokayak.ca for weather updates.

Let me know if you're coming and we'll wait for you - dry suits are mandatory at this time of year.

Cheers, Craig

Post Boxing Day Paddle - CANCELLED
by Craig Woodall on 12/24/2010 12:03

So Christmas has started, too much good food and drink already and I'm feeling the need for some exercise. Weather permitting I'll be launching from Burlington Beach on Boxing Day (Sunday 26th) at 2pm, probably be out for a couple of hours. Let me know if you're coming and I'll wait for you. Merry Christmas! Craig

UPDATE - Just went down to the beach with the dog and the weather is not good, waves and wind.....would be good fun in June but not December. Hope to see you all at Alan's 'Polar Bear Dip' paddle next weekend.

Post There with bells on!
by Craig Woodall on 12/12/2010 11:45

I'm in. I'm assuming that an additional piece of mandatory safety equipment will be a Santa hat with a bell on top?
Looking forward to it, thanks for organizing Alan.

Post Have fun
by Craig Woodall on 11/29/2010 20:29

Carla.......can the Coastguard get that far up the creek?

Wish I could make it but I'm off to Brockville on the weekend for the first of many Christmas Parties, have a great and 'safe' paddle!

Post Lessons
by Craig Woodall on 11/11/2010 16:43

Great post Carla,

Regarding the VHF Radio's, we had two in the group.....both safely tucked away in the car! How stupid does that sound now. Second lesson I learnt was to adapt to the changing conditions, the wind picked up significantly on the way back before our final crossing. Carla did the right thing and turned back, the remaining 6 of us got seperated and continued for the far bank, on reflection we should have all turned back when we had the chance. It was a scary 45 minutes, made worse when we realized that Carla was still out there. We did eventually manage to get a call in to the Coast Guard using a cell phone (*16) once we regrouped and they confirmed that they had found her.

Post Thanks for the excitement
by Craig Woodall on 10/30/2010 16:27

Thanks for organizing the paddle this morning Carla. Just so that I know for next time, what is the correct course of action should your group find themselves in rough conditions on the far side of the river bank......a) keep together b) stay where you are and wait for the weather to improve or c) all head out in different directions and then desert your team and wait for the coast guard?JOOBB_SMILEYSHOCKED
