Hi all......planning to kayak Big Creek and Big Otter Creek on Sept. 26.The plan is to do a short section on Big Creek near the town of Delhi in the morning and meet back at the start point for lunch at the park there, and after head over to Big Otter Creek to set up for about a 2 to 3 hour run down a short section of the Big Otter.

There is 4 Kayaks available to rent at Springford Enterprises (519-688-8697)for $30 a day($100 deposit).Duck and Goose hunting starts back up on sept. 26 but the Big Creek run skirts the town of Delhi so the morning run should be ok in that aspect.
These creeks arent really meant for kayaks over 10 feet but canoes may be ok.Big Creeks run has 1 to 3 portages depending on the water level....higher the level = more portages...plenty of trees to duck under so be prepared to have to kiss the bottom of your kayak in places. But at the exit there will be a half km hike up a well packed but steep hill.I always go just for the hike.Big Otter for the afternoon will require kissing the bottom of your kayak but no portages, and a easy level stroll back onto the roadway.

These sections of the Creeks are not really dangerous but have plenty of rapids, and lots of tight spaces and turns.Lifejackets MUST be WORN, or no go.

I will give times and gps coordinates in future posts

There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. The Wind in the Willows

GPS Coords are 42 degrees 50.352 N....80 degrees 38.389 W....These Coords are to the parking lot at the park behind Delhi Tobacco Museum and Heritage Center. This is the starting point of Big Creek. To get to there from Simcoe follow the #3 highway to Delhi go through all the lights (Main Street being the last set of stoplights)as you go down the hill Delhi Tobacco Museum and Heritage Center will be on your left(turn into the Museum parking lot and drive in behind to the Park.

Hoping meet all there by 8:30am and by 9:00 send a vehicle to the other end for rides back to park where we can pick up our own cars and pick up our boats and head to the Tillsonburg Carnation Park for lunch(pack a lunch,I imagine the picnic tables will still be out). From there we can drive around to the launch site for Big Otter Creek (I have done this section of the Creek in 1.5 hours and I have done it in 3 hours so I guess its gonna vary). The take out is a short drive from the put in...same deal as Big Creek a ride back to our vehicles to pick up our boats.

This can also be done where those that only want to do the morning run can call it a day at the end of the Big Creek run.No raindate! We still go in a light rain....long as no thunderstorms.
