I'm planning a fullmoon paddle for Friday, Sept. 24. Launch at 7:00 from the Sunnyside parking lot nearest the Humber. Make sure that you have all safety gear and night lights with you. If the lake is looking rough we will paddle up the Humber. Let me know if you are thinking of coming! lise.vaugeois@utoronto.ca
If you look on Google Maps, the actual park where we will meet is called: Sir Casimir Gzowski Park. Look for the parking lot closest to the Humber!
They've been calling for rain since Wednesday and we've still wound up with beautiful weather so I'm quite hopeful that we'll have good conditions on Friday. If things are looking iffy, I'll wait until 5-ish to make a decision about canceling cancel. otherwise, see you near the Humber ready to go at around 7:00 tomorrow evening!
TONIGHT'S PADDLE IS CANCELED - THE WINDS ARE ALREADY STARTING TO ROAR! DAVID D. IS LOOKING TO GO OUT SATURDAY NIGHT THOUGH SO CHECK FOR ANOTHER POSTING FROM HIM!!!

what a great idea, wish I had thought of it ;) I think so, have a heavy week coming so this might be just the thing to finish it off. I will have fresh batteries in the headlight, don't want to get stopped by the police, again.

There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. The Wind in the Willows
I will be there unless it is really really bad weather.

I haven't paddled at night before. I have all the standard paddling safety equipment, and see that I need to wear my headlamp. What else do I need for night paddling?

Having just had this discussion with the Metro Police Marine Unit (no cuffs, this time
- yes, the 5 regular safety items plus, according the regs, a 360 steady white light with a note that a waterproof flashlight is acceptable.
Now for the advice from the police: "that light is crap, we could not see you"... he recommended an LED (my headlight is but the batteries are getting a little tired) or better yet a strobe. When I asked about the regs he replied, does not matter if you get run over (good point), so I have bought a strobe, though will limit its use to higher traffic zones, can be really annoying to fellow paddlers and fresh batteries before my next launch.
Also, a good idea to have some reflectors for your boat. I add refective arm-bands that I got at work to my handles bow and stern. I know this really good Kayak school that has reflective stickers :-D

There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. The Wind in the Willows
Pending no monstrous whitecaps
Or heavy rain
And temps above 15 deg C
I'll be there.
With reflectors, NEW batteries, and glow sticks.

Hi Lise,
Thanks so much for posting this paddle. We would have been there for sure but James' Mum is here from England until Saturday evening. We were out for a walk on Wednesday and the lake was just beautiful with the big bright moon. Hope it clears up for your paddle tonight, just wanted to say watch the wind today/tonight, it looks like it's picking up. Hope we see you soon! We're actually free to do Alan's paddle on Sunday morning, any chance we'll see you there???

Sorry guys, bailing, wind is a little too high for my likings. Thinking might go out tomorrow if there are any takers, I will post a new paddle. Hopefully the weather gods will be in a better mood tomorrow.
